By Emily Smith and Erica Bray Good luck trying to snag a two-character 'dot-com' domain nowadays. Most are either taken, or can cost you millions and millions.
But a domain land grab like never before is on the horizon: Two-character domains attached to the newest "not-com" domain options will be made available for purchase to the general public. These not-com options include a diverse assortment of endings, from 'dot-agency' (.agency) to 'dot-media' (.media) to 'dot-guru' (.guru).
Why does this matter? Two-character domains are among the most coveted in part because they are among the most memorable. It's just two numbers or two letters (or a letter-number combo) to the left of the 'dot.'
So if you'd like your business or personal website to have the most succinct and meaningful domain on the digital block -- and one specific to your industry, as many of these new not-com options describe -- then jump on the opportunity. This may be your only chance. Participating domain retailers will make these options available starting Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 12 noon EST.
